…announces plans to hold zonal stakeholders town hall on gender issues
South east zonal secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Women journalists, NAWOJ, has stressed the need for the campaign against gender related issues to be sustained insisting that nothing but total success will suffice.
In a statement issued in Enugu Vice President ( South East) NAWOJ Lion Chibota Edozie urged the women folk in the zone specially female journalist to use the occasion of the Intl Women’s Day celebrations to redouble the efforts to wards achieving gender parity.
“As we celebrate the international Women’s Day today, I urge all Women journalists in the southeast to continue to promote the cause for gender parity in our society.
“Over the years, our society especially the Igbo nation has not given the female folk the deserved rights, privileges like the male enjoy and enough room to exercise their potentials.”
The South East NAWOJ Vice President however noted that it is encouraging to note that various campaigns by different groups including NAWOJ are yielding positive results.
She points out that the hitherto harmful traditional practices against women in the South East which which has lasted for decades are gradually being eroded.
“On this Occasion, we shall not relent until gender parity is enthroned in our society, Mrs. Edozie insisted.
“We therefore call on Women in the south east especially journalists to use the occasion of International Women’s day to advance this cause and rekindle the already existing zeal to ensure victory.
“On our part, the leadership of NAWOJ in the southeast has reached an advanced stage in planning and logistics for a special programme that will involve major stakeholders in furtherance of this cause. It is going to be a town hall meeting where stakeholders will interact on gender issues among others.”
