Former commissioner in Enugu State Barr. Ray Nnaji has said that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is under intense pressure as he tries to compile the team that will form his new cabinet.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with Everyday News, Barr. Nnaji said, “the pressure is too much on the governor.”
Nnaji was speaking against the backdrop of mounting tension and speculations over who will make the list of new commissioners and Special Advisers.
Nnaji said even though he is not there with Governor Ugwuanyi, “but having been so close to government in the past I know quite well that it is not easy for him.
“So many people are interested in the positions and you know only a few persons will make the list.
“That’s why he is taking his time to know people he will work with. But I believe that by now he ought to have known people he wants to work with. He may not want to offend people but it cannot be totally avoided. By now pressure will be coming from all quarters and he must offend some people, but government is very large and those who feel offended can still be compensated.”
Nnaji said Enugu people may still wait have to wait for sometime before the list is made public but he is however of the opinion that it won’t take so long.
“The reason is that the machinery of government is grounded; even if you are making use of permanent secretaries, that’s not what the law said. So the best bet is for the governor to do the appointments as quick as he can.”
