The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state yesterday said that they decided to urge President Mohammad Buhari to immediately sack the Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu following the defection of his core loyalists to the Peoples Democratic Party in the State in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State recently.
In a statement signed by the leader of Ebonyi APC Youth Vanguard in the State, Engr. Frank Ngwu and made available to Everydaynews, the group claimed that the defection of some APC members to the PDP was due to the unpopular disposition and dwindling relevance of the Minister in the state chapter of the party.
The Minister’s loyalists that recently defected during a solidarity rally organised for Umahi included former member of Ebonyi state house of Assembly, Oliver Nwachukwu; Former Coordinator of Effium Development Center, Chinedu Awo; two business moguls and APC chieftains, Chief Mathew Uzor and Chief Francis Eneh.
The group insisted that it would be detrimental for APC in the state to have Onu as a Minister since all his supporters are defecting to the PDP in droves.
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently relieve Onu of his appointment as Minister and replace him with another vibrant and popular politician that would reposition the party in the state. He said, “the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has become a bad luck to APC in Ebonyi.
“We are losing all our members that are the Minister’s core allies on daily basis to PDP. The defection clearly shows vote of no confidence on him and we can not fold our hands and allow him to kill APC in Ebonyi. The crisis in Ebonyi APC is at his instance”.
“We want to state that if the recent defection of Onu’s loyalists is his sign of trying to join another political party, he should tell us before it’s too late. He has not contributed anything to the growth of APC in Ebonyi”.
“We want President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency relieve him his appointment as a Minister because he has lost grip of relevance in the state politics and replace him with a vibrant politician that will help reposition our party in the state ahead 2019 general elections”. the Leader said.
Ngwu alleged that the leadership crisis which has bedevilled the party since it’s 2014 Congress was at the instance of Onu because of his disdain to chairmanship of Ben Nwobasi.
