Ebonyi explains Gov Umahi’s closeness to Buhari…denies link with APC

Ebonyi state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Senator Emmanuel Onwe has said that the relationship existing between Governor David Umahi, and President Muhammadu Buhari has been misunderstood by many people.
The clarification became pertinent following insinuations in some quarters that the governor who is of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wants to defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The governor recently told newsmen that he had no plans to leave the PDP for any party and has not discussed such issue with the president.
Onwe, the former Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone and a British-trained layer said that the relationship is based on appreciation of each others effort to develop the state and country.
“People who have such belief do not understand the dynamics of personal relationships which must not always be defined by politics as both leaders have many areas of agreement.
He noted that while Buhari appreciates Umahi’s development feats across the state, the governor appreciates the president’ fight against corruption as well as efforts to diversify the economy.
“The President wants Umahi’s stride to be replicated across Nigeria and he declared this while commissioning some of Umahi’s projects in November, 2017.
Onwe said that tributes should be paid to Buhari for stabilizing the country from the scenario of break up in 2015 which many people seem to have forgotten as it was close to meeting the doomsday prophesy of America that it would collapse in 2015.
“The president grabbed Umahi’s statesmanship hands which he extended to other statesmen, close to his chest up till now and the governor does not need to decamp to the APC to prove that he is a shining light among his peers.
The commissioner also debunked insinuations of rancour in the state Executive Council (EXCO) occasioned by cases of resignations, suspensions and reshuffles.
“The EXCO is as solid as a rock, I have granted press conferences clarifying that those suspended were for specific reasons.
He noted that such developments were normal and cannot be termed mutual suspicion but competition, the competitive spirit in any environment especially a political one.
