Okeaku 2019: Gov Umahi, Senator Ogba urges Ezza people to remain United

Abakaliki Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi yesterday urged the people of Ezza Nation to use the celebration of Okeaku” new yam festival to ensure the continued unification, projection and the protection of the core values of Ezza Ezekuna.

Gov Umahi said that Okeaku festival has been a linchpin holding the traditional characters of every Ezza indigene both home and in Diaspora and felicitates with the good people on the occasion of her annual New yam festival, (Okeaku-Ezekuna, 2018).

In a release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Emma Uzor said that the governor is not oblivious of the fact that New yam festival known as Okeaku in Ezza land marks the end of the each year in Ezza customary calendar and ushers in a period of harvest for all the indigenous farmers of Ezekuna clan.

According to him: “From my childhood, I have always admired the unity exhibited by Ezza people during and after each year’s celebration of this encompassing
New yam festival, I must confess, it’s an enviable, rich, and sumptuous cultural heritage which deserves to be protected with all we have, by doing that, Ezza Ezekuna cultural history can never be
written in minuscule”

“As I celebrate with you today, I want you to use this opportunity to
go down memory lane, open your minds, feel the positive impacts of
this present administration on the good people of Ezza nation for the
past 3 years. I won’t say much about that, but at least Okeaku
festival for the past 3 years have always been presided over by your
own son who happens to be the Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council of
Ebonyi State, Secretary to the State Government and many more members
of the State Executive Council all of Ezza Extraction”

“As you celebrate this year’s Okeaku festival, use this time to preach
peace and unity among you, be your brothers’ keeper, and pray always
for God’s guidance as we hope to celebrate together again next
seasons”

I therefore on behalf of my family and patriotic citizens of Ebonyi
State heartily felicitate with the good people of Ezza Ezekuna, the
council of Elders, Ndu Ozo le Ochimkpuru and indeed all Ezza sons and daughters both home and in the  Diaspora on the 2018 Okeaku Ezza
Ezekuna holding Thursday, the 26th July 2018 and wish you and indeed
the people of Ebonyi state a happy celebration.

Similarly,  the Senator Representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone, Senator Obinna Ogba has expressed joy over the Unity, progress and development the Okeaku new yam festival have brought to the people of Ezza Nation both within and in the Diaspora.

In a release signed by the senator and made available to Everyday News, he described the festival as one of the greatest and outstanding cultural activity in the South East zone and urged the people to continue to sustain it as it distinguishes the people.

According to him: Okeaku festival have not just brought unity to the people of Ezza Nation but it has also brought progress and development to the people and not just the people but Ebonyi State in general. The festival has been a uniting period of the people as both Ezzas at home and in Diaspora converge to celebrate the New yam festival”.

Senator Ogba while facilitating with the people assured them that he would not relent in his effort in ensuring qualitative representation, attraction of social amenities and employment to the people adding that, his determination is to ensure that he fulfils all his electioneering campaign promises to the people of the zone.

He called on the people to remain steadfast in their support for the People’s Democratic Party led government in the state adding that the state through the effort of the State Governor, Chief David Umahi has witnessed tremendous change and development.

“As you celebrate the Okeaku festival, I urge you to continue supporting the State governor, Chief David Umahi who has brought great development to the State. On my part, I will continue to give you qualitative representation and ensure that social amenities, youth empowerment and employment is attracted to the people of the zone”.

“It is my prayer that this year’s celebration will usher in more development, progress and mutual corporation and understanding. I wish you all the best as you celebrate”. Ends.
