2 remanded in prison for stealing N85,000 from police Inspector

Two teenagers, Success Nwankwo, 19, and Uchechi Chijioke, 16, have been arraigned by the Ebonyi State Police Command for alleged involvement in stealing.
They were arraigned on Friday before an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court on five counts charges bordering on stealing, burglary, felony and conspiracy.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Effiong, told the court that the suspects committed the offense on October 26, 2019, at Okposi Street, off Nkaliki Road, Abakaliki, in the Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.
The accused were alleged to have broken and entered into the home of a police officer, Inspector Peter Offor, and allegedly stolen the sum of N85,000.
They were also said to have robbed another policeman, one Sergeant Onen Eyong, of his 17 inches Plasma television, Tecno phone and other items.
According to the police prosecutor, the offence is punishable under sections 516A (a), 411 (1), 411 (2) and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap, 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009
The charges read in part, “That you, Success Nwankwo, Uchechi Chijioke, and others now still at large, on October 26, 2019, at Okposi Street, Abakaliki, in the Abakaliki Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: burglary/stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516A (a) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.
“That you, Success Nwankwo, Uchechi Chijioke and others now at large, on October 26, 2019, at Okposi Street, Abakaliki, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did break and enter into the dwelling house of police Inspector Peter Offor with intent to commit felony therein and thereby committed an offense punishable under Section 411 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.
“That you, Success Nwankwo, Uchechi Chijioke and others now at large, on October 26, 2019, at Okposi Street, Abakaliki, in the aforesaid magisterial district having entered the dwelling house of police Inspector Peter Offor, with intent to commit felony therein break out from the dwelling house and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 (2) of the Criminal Code, Cap 33 Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”
The Chief Magistrate, Ruth Nwali, directed that the accused be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, while their case file should be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions in the state for necessary advice.
The matter was adjourned till December 30, 2019, for hearing.
