The storm is gradually gathering in Egwu-Achi community of Oji River Local Government Area where you the Local government chairman Harrison Okeke is accused of attempts to impose unpopular traditional ruler on the people.
His candidate for the traditional stool is the self imposed Chief Victor Meniru who was recently deposed by an Enugu High Court after years of legal struggle during which the people refused to accept him as their leader.
Following his removal by the Court the Community in a recent election elected Igwe Chede Donald who polled 185 votes to defeat his closest rival Mr. Virginus Orjiemo who had 39 votes.
Mr. Victor Meniru came last with 2 votes coming behind Mr. Madu Raphael who scored 4 votes.

Meniru unpopular

Everyday News checks revealed that while the community was waiting to present the Igwe-elect Chede Donald to the Local government chairman, he (the chairman) went with a rented crowd to present the same Meniru who has been in the middle of the storm in Egwu Achi to the governor.
The Council Chairman has been quoted to have told those who cared to listen that he was working according to instructions from the Government House.
A community leader who spoke to our reporter said, “this is the same way way the former commissioner for Chieftaincy imposed this same man on our people.
“Now it is the Council Chairman that is being used to ensure that peace never returned to Egwu Achi.
“The man is unpopular and the people don’t want him. The elders have warned of the consequences of what Harrison is trying to bring upon our people.”
