Tanker crushes Keke operator to death in Anambra

A yellow 911 M/Benz water tanker with registration number XB 698 GDD laden with water last Monday at People’s club road, Odume lay-out, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra state, crushed a tricycle ( keke-na-pep) operator to death.

The incident which occurred at about 4.30pm was attributed to brake failure.

The driver was reportedly descending the road when he lost control and hit the tricycle, smashing it beyond recognition.

The lorry also hit and destroyed the walls of a nearby building.

An eyewitnesses said the Keke had the opportunity of escaping the mishap but tried to save the keke too.

One Chukwudi Okeke said, “when the driver of the water tanker lost control of the vehicle on descending the people’s, club road, people were shouting to the keke operator to run away for his dear life, but he did not listen and so he was crushed to death as he tried to escape with the tricycle.

“The vehicle first crushed him to death, jumped the gutter before hitting and pulling down the fence.”

Another witness said that;
“the keke man killed himself for refusing to abandon his keke at that point and run away. He rather tried to show he could be smart enough to drive away with the keke.”

Contacted, the Isiowulu Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr Francis
Williams, confirmed the incident but declined to give detail as he
referred this reporter to the state Police Public Relations Officer,
PPRO, Mr Haruna Mohammed for details.
